Global experts have given New York State's Western New York Region approval to begin Phase 3 of the reopening process on Tuesday. The Western Region includes the Greater Olean area.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo made the announcement Monday during his daily coronavirus briefing.
"Western New York will enter Phase 3 tomorrow, and that's exciting," Cuomo said.
The governor also said that the state has modified Phase 3 guidelines because data shows its phased reopening process is working well.
"We're going to modify Phase 3 given this new data, and we're going to allow gatherings up to 25 people in Phase 3, which is up from 10 people," he said.
Phase 3 will allow restaurants and other food services business, as well as personal care businesses to reopen under state guidelines.
A team of global public health experts advises the state on its reopening strategy and reviews data for the regions before they are cleared to enter Phase 3.
