Kanda Simpson received Olean General Hospital’s January Star Award.

Simpson, a unit clerk in the emergency department, started her career at OGH in 2015 when she worked as a nursing assistant. Before moving on to her current position, Simpson also worked in the ED as a technician.

“Kanda does a great job," Sandra Watkins, director, emergency and cardiac services, said. "She answers the phone with a smile, assures transfer paperwork is correct and owns her work. She goes above and beyond her job and takes care of all of us. She is greatly appreciated by doctors, nurses, techs and other unit clerks.”

OGH presents the award monthly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Patients or coworkers nominate employees for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/accountability and excellence. OGH considers those nominated for the award to be “shining stars.”
