The nation is facing an economic crisis, as well as a health crisis, Rep. Tom Reed said Tuesday.
Reed, who represents the Greater Olean area, said Congress needs to support people and ease their financial burdens while also keeping hospitals equipped with necessary supplies. He said a balance is needed to prevent the nation from falling into a larger economic crisis similar to the Great Depression.
"We have to make informed decisions," he said during a media call with reporters. "We will know more in a week, two weeks and more. We have to gauge what we do."
Reed said the government needs to keep as many people on business payrolls as possible and also ensure that medical needs are met for the public. He said there is also a need to make sure that hospitals do not reach capacity, so they can continue to treat people with COVID-19.
