Tracy Mitrano supports Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s May 10 executive order that nursing home staff undergo twice-weekly testing.

In a Saturday interview with TAPinto Greater Olean, Mitrano, the Democratic challenger for the 23rd Congressional district, explained her position.

“It makes complete sense to test the staff in those facilities,” Mitrano said.

She referenced her most recent Tuesday Talks with Tracy, which featured Dr. Karl Pillemer, a gerontologist and Cornell University faculty member, as its sole panelist. She said that Pillemer “confirmed that Governor Cuomo’s plan makes sense.”

She added that Pillemer agreed that testing should be done twice weekly, if not daily.

“The virus attacks densely populated areas and people in residential facilities are sitting ducks, so to speak,” Mitrano said. “It makes sense that the only way the virus is getting into those places is the staff. So, if our community wants to protect our seniors and other people in residential facilities, bring our death rates down, we need testing.”
