ALLEGANY, NY – Police arrested an Allegany man Wednesday morning following an investigation into a complaint from the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services of suspected welfare fraud.
Police arrested David E. Ortlip, 61, for two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, two counts of welfare fraud in the fourth degree, petit larceny, welfare fraud in the fifth degree and four counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree. Ortlip fraudulently received $4,265 in combination of food stamps and public assistance benefits by concealing and failing to report income, police said.
Ortlip turned himself in at the Department of Social Services and was released with an appearance ticket, according to police.
