ALLEGANY, NY — Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s officers charged two people with Confinement of a Companion Animal in a Vehicle: Extreme Temperatures on June 10.

Police said Darell Goodwill, 81, and Lynn Goodwill, 74, both of Smethport, Pennsylvania, left a cocker spaniel in a pickup truck in the Home Depot parking lot with the vehicle’s windows closed while outside temperatures were more than 90 degrees.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Allegany police observed the dog in distress and unlocked the vehicle to remove it.  A bystander provided water and shade for the dog. After about 20 minutes, the owners of the dog exited the Home Depot.

The Goodwills were issued appearance tickets for the Town of Allegany Court.

The Town of Allegany Dog Control Officer has taken possession of the dog.
