ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — The Atlantic 10 Conference announced that it has canceled all remaining spring sports. The decision follows one made earlier on Thursday by the NCAA to cancel all remaining winter and spring championships.
Bernadette McGlade, commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference, said while it’s been a trying day for the conference, student-athletes and all of sports, this decision had to be made to protect the safety of all.

“This has been another difficult decision for the conference, but canceling our spring sports seasons and championships is in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans. The health and safety of everyone is our top priority, and while we truly empathize with our student-athletes, we believe this is the best course of action. I’m thankful for the leadership of our Presidents’ Council, athletic directors, coaches and student-athletes during this difficult time in our history.”
St. Bonaventure Director of Athletics Tim Kenney shared a similar opinion.
“While this decision is difficult, it is in the best interest of our student-athletes, families and the Bona community as we take precautions to protect their safety and well-being,” Kenney said. “This is an unprecedented time in collegiate athletics and in our nation, and while we lament the need to cancel our spring seasons, the safety of all is paramount.”
While the St. Bonaventure men’s lacrosse team does not compete in the Atlantic 10, its season, according to multiple sources, has been canceled by the Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference.
