ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team won its second consecutive game, defeating George Mason, 74-65, on Saturday.
While the Bonnies only held a 37-34 advantage at halftime, George Mason struggled in the early stages of the second half.
The Bonnies scored 17 points off of 14 George Mason turnovers. Adding to the Patriots’ offensive frustrations, the team missed nine of its 20 free-throw attempts and only made eight of its 27 3-point shots.
Leading the way for the Bonnies was point guard Kyle Lofton. The sophomore from Hillside, New Jersey, had 17 points to go along with seven assists. Fellow sophomore guard, Dominick Welch, earned a double-double, scoring 14 points while bringing down 13 rebounds.
Off the bench, freshman guard Alejandro Vasquez put together a strong performance, scoring 10 points in 23 minutes of play.
For the Patriots, Jordan Miller put together a strong performance. Miller scored 15 points, six of them coming from the free-throw line. Javon Greene led the Patriots with 17 points on 6-15 shooting while collecting seven total rebounds.
The Bonnies will look to extend their winning streak to three when the George Washington Colonials visit the Reilly Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
To open up Atlantic 10 Conference play, the Bonnies beat the Colonials on Jan.5, 71-66. Osun Osunniyi led the Bonnies with 20 points, five blocked shots and nine rebounds.
