OLEAN, NY — St. Bonaventure University’s club ice hockey team faced off against St. John Fisher Sunday, winning 12-0. The Bonnies are 10-1 in the regular season and 8-0 in the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League in the Collegiate Hockey Federation.
The Bonnies started off slowly, with one goal by Jeremy Bereza in the first period. In the second, the team scored seven goals. Matt Johnson scored two; Jake Kaempf, three, and Peter Marra and Brett Smith, one each.
In the third period, four players scored one goal apiece: Johnson, Kaempf, Smith and Joey Yaro.
Overall, the team had three hat tricks; the scorers were Kaempf, Johnson and Smith.
Both teams started to get rowdy by the end of the second period and all through the third, ending with Grant Hens on St. John Fisher getting kicked out of the game and many members of both teams being sent to the penalty box for roughing or other penalties.
The Bonnies will play at Canisius on Friday.
