ORCHARD PARK, NY --- The Buffalo Bills have named Olean High School football coach Phil Vecchio as one of two Buffalo Region Coaches of the Week.
Presented in partnership with ADPRO Sports, coaches are chosen for their “commitment to success on the field, and unwavering dedication to mentoring young athletes,” according to the announcement, which was posted on the Bills website. Vecchio will share this week's honors with Jasson Jobson of Eastridge.
Vecchio, in his fourth season at the helm of the Huskies, led his team --- seeded seventh --- to an upset victory over No. 2 Newfane on Saturday in the first round of the Section VI Class B playoffs. Down 24-20 with 14 seconds left in regulation, sophomore quarterback Railey Silvis found wide receiver, Gavin Kulp, down the field to convert a 79-yard game-winning touchdown to give the Huskies the 26-24 victory.
Olean will face Albion on the road in the sectional semi-finals tonight at 7 p.m. The winner will place in the Section VI Championship Game at New Era Field.
