TOLEDO, OHIO – Cole Peterson, who played shortstop for the Olean Oilers and the St. Bonaventure University Bonnies, was promoted to the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, Friday.
Peterson was drafted by the Tigers in 2017 and has split his 2019 season between the Single A Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Double A Erie SeaWolves. In 77 games with Lakeland, he batted .284. He had a .253 batting average in 27 games with Erie.
Peterson played for the Olean Oilers in 2015 and 2016 – the two years the team won back-to-back New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) Championships.
With the Bonnies, he played in 144 games and compiled a career .301 average over three seasons from 2015 to 2017.
Peterson’s former Oiler and Bonnie teammate Aaron Philipps also had a taste of Triple A baseball this season. Phillips was called up to the Sacramento River Cats for a spot start on July 19 and pitched six strong innings against the Tacoma Rainiers to pick up a win.
