GLENS FALLS, NY — Portville’s day wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough to get back to a state championship for the third straight season.

The Panthers started the day beating Section XI champion Pierson-Bridgehampton, 25-13 and 25-14. In their second match of the day, it was much of the same, as the Panthers defeated Section II champion Lake George, 25-12 and 25-21.

In their third and final match of Saturday’s pool play, the Panthers faltered to the Section I champion Valhalla, 25-22 and 25-18.

However, the Panthers finished the day 4-2, and advanced to Sunday’s state final, which will start at noon.

For Portville to win its fifth state title in six seasons, the Panthers will have to figure out a way to defeat Valhalla, which finished Saturday’s pool play 6-0.
