HACKENSACK, NJ -- The Hackensack Community Garden is growing.
After last year’s successful inaugural year, plans are underway to expand the number of raised beds and container planters offered for Hackensack gardeners. Approximately 30, 4 x 8 raised beds that can be divided to 60, 4 x 4 beds, and 12 new container planters will be phased in this year and added to the number of already existing beds and container planters. To accommodate gardeners who have difficulty bending and as a possible deterrent to ground hog issues, this year another 8 inches will be added to the height of many of the current 16-inch raised beds. In addition, plans are underway to add more watering stations.
Pre-registration for returning gardeners begins February 3. Registration for new gardeners begins March 2. For further information and Garden Registration Packet contact City of Hackensack Recreation Department: 116 Holt Street, Hackensack or call 201-646-8042.
