HACKENSACK, NJ -- Hackensack’s Mayor and Council presented Police Officer Sergio Raneli with a proclamation at Monday night’s council meeting for his life-saving efforts following a one-car accident in the city last month.
The five-year veteran was first on the scene of a convertible that had struck a utility pole on the corner of Summit and Central avenues. The driver had suffered a head injury and significant blood loss but was treated immediately by Officer Raneli.
Councilwoman Stephanie Von Rudenborg read the proclamation.
“Officer Raneli is to be commended for his quick thinking and lifesaving action taken during a car accident,” she said. “Officer Raneli used his knowledge in the use of QuikClot gauze and he applied the gauze, making sure the bleeding had stopped before he called for backup.”
Officer Raneli said while at the Bergen County Police Academy, his training officer convinced him to earn QuikClot Combat Gauze certification.
