HACKENSACK, NJ -- Hackensack Middle School’s eighth-graders were in for a special treat Monday as three members of the Fairleigh Dickinson men’s basketball team, as well as Coach Greg Herenda and his staff, dropped by to meet with them in the school auditorium.

Coach Herenda discussed various life lessons with the students in attendance and introduced player Nadi Beciri and Jahlil Jenkins to demonstrate how dedication and perseverance can pay off on and off the court.

The highlight of the day was an appearance by BJ Saliba Jr., who will be attending FDU this fall. An alum of Hackensack Middle School, Saliba had high praise for his former teachers who helped him to achieve his goals.

“This was a great experience for all involved and I’m thrilled BJ, Nadi, Jahlil, Coach Herenda and his staff were able to take the time to visit our school,” said Hackensack Deputy Mayor David Sims. “Hackensack is such a tight-knit community and it’s especially wonderful to see people like BJ remember where they came from and pay tribute to those who helped them along the way.”
