HACKENSACK, NJ -- Ira Goodman pulled ahead of Board of Education Vice President Tim Hoffman in the continuing race for the third and final seat on the Hackensack School Board today after 17 provisional ballots and 32 vote by mail ballots were counted at the Bergen County Board of Elections. The new tally has Goodman at 892 votes and Hoffman at 887, and constitutes a clean sweep for the Hackensack Smart Schools team.

"I would like to thank the voters and assure them that my only goal is to make Hackensack Schools among the best in Bergen County," Goodman said. "I look forward to working with all interested parties to make this happen."

Board President Lara Rodriguez and running mate Scott James-Vickery placed first and second in last Tuesday's election, edging out Hoffman's team of Yvette Washington-Irving and Basim Ahmad. Goodman began the day behind Hoffman for the third spot, but he will finish it ahead pending certification by the Board of Elections. Hoffman now has 11 days to ask for a recount according to state statute. Hoffman could not immediatley be reached for comment.
