HACKENSACK – Hungry for tacos?

On Thursday evening, the city’s zoning board signed off on plans to build a new Taco Bell restaurant and single-lane drive-thru on Main Street.

The application, filed by Muy Brands, LLC., calls for the construction of a freestanding 2,083-square foot, one-story building on the northeast corner of Target’s parking lot, by Hackensack and Temple avenues. The new restaraunt will include 42 indoor seats, five outdoor seats and 29 parking spots.

Construction at the newly-approved restaurant should begin in July and wrap up by September, according to Robert Delia, whose firm, Summit Realty, LLC handles the chain's northern New Jersey locations.

First filed with the city in September 2017, the plan required zoning board approval since the proposed restaraunt's location would be within a subdivided portion of the existing parking lot.

The zoning board approved the plans on Feb. 21 and memorialized its vote last week.

Taco Bell operates about 7,000 restaurants nationally, including one on River Street in Hackensack and two in Paramus.

Delia said a new Taco Bell is also under construction in Bergenfield and should be complete by early June, and an existing restaurant in Hasbrouck Heights, which is currently closed for renovations, will reopen its doors in July.
