Hackensack Planning Board Approves New Brewery

HACKENSACK -- The Hackensack Planning Board approved the application of city resident Mike Jones at Wednesday night’s meeting to open Hackensack Brewing Company in a Johnson Avenue warehouse.

This will be the second brewery to come to Hackensack, after The Alementary, which is around the corner on Voorhis Lane, and opened two years ago.

Jones hopes to have a manufacturing area on the side of Hackensack Brewing Company, with a partition separating it from the taproom, which will feature eight or nine seats and eight beers on tap. Different beers will be offered every season of the year.

This move adds to the downtown rehabilitation plan, which the city developed in 2012 to revitalize downtown Hackensack.

“We are very encouraged by the willingness of Mr. Jones to make this kind of investment in the city,” said Mayor John Labrosse. “The Redevelopment of our downtown was one of the reasons he is bringing the brewery here and he realizes the type of residents that will be living in Hackensack are the types of customers attracted to frequent a craft brewery. Decisions like this only come when risk-takers see Hackensack as a good bet. Hackensack Brewing Company looked at location, demographics, infrastructure, transportation and decided this is the place.  We welcome them and wish them well.”
