HACKENSACK, NJ -- Dance 3volution, a local dance company affiliated with Hackensack Public Schools, is having a dance extravaganza tonight, with 24 choreographed dance pieces, performed by 23 dancers from Hackensack.

Dance 3volution teaches kids ages 7-18 various types of dance, including  jazz, ballet, tap, liturgical and hip-hop, and offers classes for beginners as well as advanced dancers, all of which are held at the Hackensack Civic Center, 65 Central Avenue, Hackensack. Their motto is “Making footprints for the future.”

Dance 3volution Dance Company is the product of two school-based dance crews that rose from the Hackensack Public School System. The first dance crew started was at Nellie K. Parker Elementary School with 3rd and 4th graders. Their motto is “Taking Dance and Learning to New Heights.” The program was started to give students a safe environment to express themselves through the art of dance and build self-esteem.

The second dance crew started at The Hackensack Middle School with DC2 (Dance Crew 2) which included 5th – 8th graders. Their motto is “I Came, I Danced, I Conquered." This program took things a step further by developing leadership skills. As the dancers matured, their need for dance, performance, and technique became greater and this was the birth of Dance 3volution (pronounced Evolution).

Tonight's show starts at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:30, at Hackensack Middle School, 360 Union St. The cost is $20 at the door ($8 for students), and $15 in advance.
