HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A 40-year-old Hackensack woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after investigators discovered she inflicted injury on a runaway juvenile this month.

On Monday, August 3, the city police department received a report of a missing juvenile who was under 13, according to a news release from Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Police eventually found the child, and learned the juvenile ran away following a physical altercation with Sugell Bakir. The Prosecutor’s Office did not disclose the relationship between Bakir and the child.

An investigation between the police department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit determined that Bakir, a divorced insurance broker, pushed, bit and struck the child in the head with an object before the child fled on foot.

Bakir was arrested on Monday and was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing Friday.
