BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- Bloomfield resident Rick Wright has recently written two books that, literally, are for the birds.

While that connotation is usually negative, in this instance it's a perfect description of the local author's latest work. Wright's Custom Bird Guides series introduces birdwatchers to the best local birding sites and a wide selection of the most common, most colorful, and most fascinating birds they can hope to find there. Illustrated with photographs and written in a non-technical, conversational style, the CBG volumes are the perfect entry point into the world of birds, in your backyard and beyond.

Rick Wright leads Birds and Art tours in Europe and the Americas for Victor Emanuel Nature Tours. He also provides personalized guiding services to birding localities throughout New Jersey. In addition to the titles in the Custom Bird Guides series, Rick’s recent books include the ABA Field Guide to Birds of New Jersey and the ABA Field Guide to Birds of Arizona; his Peterson Reference Guide to American Sparrows was published in 2019. Rick’s particular research interest lies in the history and culture of birding, and he is a sought-after lecturer at conventions and bird club meetings. Rick lives in Bloomfield with his family, Alison Beringer and Avril Huang.

All photography in the books was done by Sanford Sorkin.  Sorkin has been a birder and photographer for more than a decade. Since retiring from Temple University in Philadelphia, he has had time for trips to Central America, the Lesser Antilles, and, above all, England, as well as many parts of the United States. Sorkin is a widely published writer and a frequent lecturer at bird clubs and schools in New Jersey.

Their titles notwithstanding, the books' geographic coverage extends across most of northern New Jersey, including Bloomfield.
