HACKENSACK -- The popular musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be performed at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 23 and twice on Saturday, Feb. 24. Set in the fictitious Putnam Valley Middle School, the show focuses on six eccentric contestants in the school Spelling Bee, run by three eccentric adults.
The Broadway production was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning for Best Book and Best Featured Actor, while the original Broadway cast recording was nominated for a Grammy. It also won three Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Book of a Musical. The show has been performed all over the world, including Australia, Korea, Hong Kong, London, Jerusalem, Mexico City and Tel Aviv.
The Feb. 23 show begins at 8 p.m. There are 1 and 8 p.m. performances the following day. Tickets are $20.
