HACKENSACK, N.J. — A fire that sporadically erupted in the engine compartment of a man’s vehicle costed him his car this morning.

Firefighters arrived to the city apartment complex of 340 Hudson Street before 10 a.m. Wednesday to find the hood of a parked Nissan mini van up in orange and yellow flames and thick clouds of grey and black smoke.

The vehicle’s owner was reportedly working at the complex when a resident noticed the fire and phoned the fire department, City Fire Captain Justin Derevyanik said.

A line of residents looked on as firefighters extinguished the blaze within seconds. No one was in the vehicle at the time of the fire. While there were no injuries, the vehicle is ravaged with irreparable damage. The cause of the fire is unknown.
