HACKENSACK, NJ -- This afternoon, members of the Hackensack Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on West Lookout Ave. after Fire Headquarters received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting smoke from the house.
According to the Hackensack Fire Department's Public Information Officer, Captain Justin Derevyanik, "the first arriving units found smoke coming from the attic area. Engine 5 stretched the initial attack line as Ladder 1 forced entry to the home via the front door. Engine 5 stretched to the second floor and extinguish the fire. Additional companies assisted in ventilation, searches and overhaul. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes."
Most importantly, no one was hurt. Some major tri-state area news outlets had previously inaccurately reported that a person was barricaded in the house, but no one was home at the time of the fire.
The origin of the blaze was an electrical fire somewhere on the second floor. At this time, the HFD spokesman said there is no suspicion of foul play or arson.
