HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Board Secretary is seeking applications to fill a seat on the Board of Education vacated by Trustee Lara Rodriguez who announced her resignation last month.

Rodriguez, who served on the board for seven years, cited personal reasons for retiring in a letter she sent to the Board of Education on June 26.

"Being elected three times to this post by the voters of the greatest city in New Jersey has been an incredible honor,” wrote Rodriguez. "I will always cherish the work I did and the memories I have in service of the students, parents, teachers and community that is the Hackensack public schools. I am humbled to have received your trust. I have always believed that if I reached a point in which I were no longer capable of giving this important position the time and attention it requires, that I would step aside and allow someone with the necessary commitment to serve the students and school community."

She continued, "The residents of Hackensack deserve the unwavering dedication and attention of every member of this Board. I have enjoyed working with all the people involved in making our schools a constantly improving and evolving experience for our children. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, I find myself unable to continue to serve at a level I have come to expect for myself. As a result, I have concluded that it is time for me to make room for a new voice on this board.”

Interested applicants are asked to send a letter of intent to Board Secretary Dora Zeno by email at dzeno@hackensackschools.org by 4 p.m. July 23 the latest. Selected candidates will be reached shortly thereafter to initiate the interview process.
