HACKENSACK, NJ -- In honor of Women’s History Month, the Mayor and Council paid tribute to all women at last night’s council meeting.

“Women have played, and continue to play, a critical, economic, cultural and social role by providing a significant portion of the labor force, working inside and outside the home,” Mayor John Labrosse read from the proclamation. “Women have been leaders, not only in securing their own rights in suffrage and equal opportunity, but in movements such as civil rights, emancipation, abolition and labor unions for liberty, freedom and justice for all.”

A second proclamation was presented to women in the administration, including Deputy Mayor Kathleen Canestrino, Councilwoman Stephanie Von Rudenborg and those working in the Clerk’s and City Manager’s office.

“So many of our department heads are women, our Clerk, our Deputy Clerk,” said Deputy Mayor Kathleen Canestrino. “The city relies on them each and every day to do the fabulous jobs that they do."
