PARAMUS, NJ -- We the People, a nonprofit organization started by Bergen County Freeholder Tracy Silna Zur, will hold its Fourth Annual “Martin Luther King Day of Service” in the Bergen Community College gymnasium, 400 Paramus Road, on Monday, January 20 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The event welcomes 800 students from Bergen County’s diverse religious and cultural communities to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy of community service.

Sponsored by Bergen Community College, Inserra Supermarkets and Fuel 4, We the People's MLK Day of Service brings students together to work on multiple service-minded projects such as creating "go bags" for children escaping domestic violence and in the foster care system, a collaborative art project that will be donated to public buildings; tying no-sew polar fleece blankets that will be donated to senior citizens and Project Linus; packing hygiene kits to help the homeless; and creating "thank-you" bags for active service men and women.

Through working together and guided discussions, We the People hopes to encourage discussions, friendships, and the promotion of understanding that our diversity is our strength, and that our similarities are greater than our differences.
