HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The city council will earmark their reward of $840,000 in Green Acres grant funding for improvements to Staib and Columbus Parks.

The Green Acres Program was created by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) in 1961 to meet New Jersey's growing recreation and conservation needs.

“We are grateful to the NJDEP and the Green Acres Program for recognizing the need for park renovations that will improve recreation opportunities for thousands of residents,” said Mayor John Labrosse. “This funding will allow us to renovate basketball courts at Columbus Park, restrooms and grounds at Staib Park, and resurface land where needed to expand recreation opportunities.”

The City Council on Tuesday, November 12, also approved the application for a Bergen County Community Development grant for $415,000 for nearby road resurfacing.
