HACKESNACK, NJ -- Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo has announced the arrest of 64-year-old Hackensack man Carl Johnson on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault By Sexual Contact, and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Englewood Police Department.
The Englewood Police Department received a report on March 23 that the suspect had engaged in sexual acts with a child under the age of thirteen in Englewood on numerous occasions between 2009 and 2015. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Englewood Police Department resulted in Johnson's arrest on Wednesday, November 21, in Hackensack. He has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2A, a 1st degree crime; one count of Sexual Assault By Sexual Contact, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b, a 2nd degree crime; and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A, a 3rd degree crime.
A statement from Acting Prosecutor Calo reads in part "that the charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and [the BCPO] would also like to thank the Englewood Police Department for its assistance in this investigation."
