HACKENSACK, N.J. — A commercial building in the city’s business district was ravaged in a fire that occurred early Saturday night.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on May 16, the fire alarm from 227 Main Street, NJ Modern Kitchen and Bath, resounded as firefighters and mutual aid rushed to extinguish a four-alarm blaze that caused thick clouds of gray smoke that billowed from the structure.
While the cause of the fire is under investigation, fire officials say the roof collapsed as a result. Yesterday afternoon, the Hackensack Fire Department noted that the building is a “total loss” in a Facebook post, and that their thoughts are with the owners who lost their business.
An investigation is ongoing among members of the Hackensack Fire Prevention and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office arson squad.
No serious injuries were reported.
