HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A 28-year-old married Hackensack man who is unemployed was arrested and charged on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child under 16 after the child allegedly told city education officials at school that they were “intentionally struck in the face” by the perpetrator.

Walter Rodriguez was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation into the matter by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hackensack Police Department. The child abuse concerns were first reported on Monday by the Hackensack Police Department and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. The agencies contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after the child reportedly told school officials that the injuries on his face were a result of being hit by Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Hackensack.
