HACKENSACK, NJ – A 90-year-old Hackensack man escaped serious injury Thursday morning after his car crashed into a building on Prospect Avenue, according to police.

Around 9:40 a.m., police were called to a Prospect Avenue building after receiving a report that a vehicle had crashed into the structure, Police Capt. Nicole Foley said in a news release.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a 2019 Hyundai Sonata had been driven into the building, damaging both the window and brick façade of a vacant first floor apartment, Foley said.

Police spoke with the driver, who said he was trying to exit onto Prospect Avenue when his car “suddenly accelerated” causing him to crash into the building, she said.

The man was not injured and refused medical attention, she said.

Members of the Hackensack Fire Department also responded to temporarily secure the damaged areas of the building.

No summonses have been issued at this time, according to police.
