HACKENSACK, NJ -- A Teaneck man is facing charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault after a late-night altercation on Sunday turned deadly.

City police received a 911 call on Sunday, January 26 that a stabbing had occurred at the apartment complex of 240 Anderson Street. When officers entered Apartment 6G, they found 30-year-old Vanden L. Carter lying in a pool of blood with “multiple stab wounds to his torso.” Carter was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m. Police were then notified of a second stabbing victim, Kelisen O. Brewley, 31, who had been treated at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack and Teaneck Police Departments determined that Brewley and Carter were acquaintances and had “engaged in an altercation” that was interceded by an unnamed third party who attempted to break up the fight. This person was also assaulted by Brewley with a knife.

Brewley was arrested on Monday, January 27 and charged with one count each of manslaughter, a second-degree crime, and aggravated assault, a fourth-degree crime. He was remanded to Bergen County Jail and was due in court today.
