HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Two city men have been arrested by Hackensack Police and charged with robbery after two separate thefts occurred the same day last Friday.
According to a press release from Hackensack Police Detective Captain Darrin DeWitt, the repeat offenders, Kelvin Hernandez Brioso and Francisco Castillo-Rodriguez, both 22 and living in Hackensack, were arrested in Rochelle Park on Friday, June 19 earlier in the day for package theft. Later that evening in Hackensack before 9 p.m., a city man was leisurely riding his bicycle at the intersection of Troast and South Main Streets when the culprits -- who were on foot -- approached the bicyclist from behind and grabbed him.
They demanded his bicycle, cell phone, and the gold chain from his neck. When the victim refused to hand his necklace over, the culprits yanked the chain from his neck before they fled on foot. After the man called the police, an investigation was undertaken by Hackensack Police Detective John Mora, who identified Brioso and Castillo-Rodriguez and signed warrants against them for robbery.
Mora and Detective Sergeant Francesco Tripodi located the suspects Wednesday and arrested them.
The men were remanded to Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
