HACKENSACK, NJ —  Deputy Mayor David Sims and Councilman Leo Battaglia helped welcome members of the Harlem Globetrotters, Zeus and Hoops, to Hackensack High School Friday as part of a basketball clinic for local children.

The Hackensack Recreation Department received a grant award from the SNY network, though its Play Ball initiative, which supports youth baseball, soccer, football and basketball programs in the New York metropolitan area. Fifty children were selected to participate.

“We are so grateful to SNY and to the Harlem Globetrotters for making this afternoon possible,” Deputy Mayor Sims said. “We’ve got such a great group of kids in our Rec Department and I know it meant so much to them to play with the legendary Globetrotters for one day. This is definitely something they will never forget.”

SNY will air feature stories on the Play Ball initiative during GEICO SportsNite throughout this week.
