HAMILTON, NJ -- Members of the Hamilton Township Democratic Committee met at the Ancient Order of Hibernians hall Saturday to choose three potential replacements for the council seat vacated by Jeff Martin when he became mayor.
According to sources, the three candidates chosen by the Committee for consideration are Jennifer Coffey, Keith Platt and Charles "Chuddy" Whalen.
New Jersey state law requires that the elected county committee members of the same political party as the individual vacating the seat meet within 14 days of a vacancy on a local council. The candidates are then presented to the current Township council members who select the person who will fill the remainder of the term. In this case, the individual will serve until December 30, 2020 when the council term will expire.
It is anticipated that the four current council candidates will cast their vote on the new member at their January 21 meeting.
