HAMILTON, NJ --  The Hamilton Township School District (HTSD) announced on Tuesday that planning is underway to reopen in the fall for the 2020-2021 school year. The reopening will be conducted in stages, following guidelines provided by the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE), New Jersey Governor Murphy, and the New Jersey Department of Health.

A full reopening plan will be presented by the School District in early August 2020 after the Hamilton Township Board of Education meets.

“Our commitment to the school community is to develop district plans focused on the health and safety of all who learn and work in our schools. I am thankful for the many stakeholders who have volunteered to address the challenges associated with the reopening of schools in September. We will work together to create a positive and effective learning environment for all students whether we are in school, implementing a hybrid model, or on remote learning,” said Dr. Scott Rocco, Superintendent of Schools.

The plan addresses the following four key subject areas: conditions for learning; leadership and planning; policy and funding; and continuity of learning.

HTSD has created several district committees to assist with its reopening plans.

Each committee is composed of District leaders, teachers, parents, support staff, and community members, all working together to create a detailed plan for reopening schools. Committees will meet weekly to develop strategies within the following areas of expertise: Instruction, Personnel, Safety, Facilities & Operations, Health, and Wellness.

The School District noted that Governor Murphy has mandated school districts plan for three possible options: in-person, remote, or a mix of in-person and remote learning. HTSD will keep a focus on the health and safety of the entire school community, they said.

In the meantime, the School District invited parents and guardians to work with their children to prepare them for the 2020-21 school year. Students can practice wearing a mask, social distancing, and hand-washing as well as test their technology for remote learning.

HTSD also has created a new brand for our reopening, “HTSD + Me” to alert families and faculty to important district updates will be posted to our website and social media in association with this logo.
