ROBBINSVILLE, NJ – Kids grow up so fast and seem to grow out of their clothes, toys and gear even faster.  Instead of letting barely used items pile up in the closets many families look to consign their children’s items to  and shop for news ones for their growing family.

Later this month central New Jersey families will flock to one of the state’s largest consignment sales, part of a three-day hosted by Just Between Friends (JBF) in Robbinsville. Between Friday, September 27 and Sunday, September 29, hundreds of families will shop the children’s consignment sale at Robbinsville’s Field House located at 153 West Manor Way.

Just Between Friends began with one mom, Sharon McKnight, who started consigning children’s items out of her garage. Now, there are more than 150 JBF franchises across the country that provide an opportunity for families to purchase items for their children at affordable prices.

The local Mercer County Just Between Friends began about three years ago by a pair of girlfriends, Jennifer Grant and Michele Weinstock, who themselves had shopped their local JBF consignment sale for their families.

“Shoppers can find everything they need for their growing families at 50 to 90 percent off retail prices,” said Grant. “One very young, newly pregnant couple came to our sale during our 50 percent off sale on Sunday and were so shocked by the total of their bill, they went back and shopped some more. After they checked out the second time, they had enough money left over to get the last item on their list. They were so happy- they said they only had $100 and they were able to get everything they needed for their new baby."

On average, the range of children’s items are priced depending upon age of the item, brand, and condition.  Items that will be sold at the Robbinsville JBF sale include ride-on toys, bikes, outdoor play equipment; strollers, car seats, swings, bouncy seats, pack-n-plays; infant and toddler clothing and toys; fall and winter girls, boys, juniors and young men’s clothing; maternity clothing;  games, arts & crafts; books, puzzles, DVD’s and CD's; and nursery items such as gliders, bedding, lamps, and décor.

“Our shoppers make the best consignors because they think like shoppers and price like shoppers. They know what people are looking for and at what price,” Grant said.

Just Between Friends hosts semi-annual sales in the Fall and Spring each year. Hours for the Fall sale at the Robbinsville Field House vary each day. The earlier in the three-day event that shoppers attend the greater the inventory still available. Organizers say there are special additional deals each day.

On Friday, September 27 doors open at 12 noon for early pass holders; then first-time parents and grandparents are welcomed at 2:00 pm; at 3:00 pm shopping opens for “Hometown Heroes” such as teachers, military, first responders, adoptive and foster parents, doctors, nurses and EMTs. Friday night is open to the public at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

On Saturday, September 28 the sale opens at 8:00 am and features a scavenger hunt where $250 in JBF bucks can be found and used by shoppers.   The final day of the sale, Sunday, September 29 between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, features the deepest discounts with an additional 50 percent off most items.

Shoppers can purchase tickets online in advance and learn about the JBF consignment sale online at www.mercercounty.jbfsale.com

“If people are interested in consigning, we are here to help every step of the way! Once they register, they will receive a series of email explaining the process step by step.  We also have a hands-on class at the Hampton Inn at Robbinsville five to six weeks before the sale and go over everything including prepping, pricing, the computer system, what to expect at drop off and the team member schedule and percentages,” said Grant.

Consigners pay a $10 registration fee and can “tag” their items using the online system to help price their goods. Volunteers with JBF also can help “tag” items for an additional fee to use their experience to best sale items.

Vendor opportunities also are available for businesses or organizations that are family focused.

Items that are not sold, or retrieved by their owner at the end of the sale days, are donated to Children’s Futures.
