BORDENTOWN, NJ – If you live in Bordentown or the surrounding area, you are probably used to noise coming from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL).
JBMDL has released its monthly "Noise Level Calendar" for April 2021 so that its neighbors know what to expect when it comes to sounds coming from the Base.
The calendar is broken down into three categories: slight noise, moderate noise and abundant noise. April is turning out to be slightly noisy. Although there are only two days of "abundant noise" scheduled – for April 3 and April 20 – the rest of the month is scheduled for "moderate noise", with only April 4 being deemed a "slight noise" day.
Although JBMDL does not publicize the specific training that is taking place day-to-day, exercises can range from artillery training to explosive disposal training to mortar training-- which typically leads to the loudest noise levels.
JBMDL notes that noise levels are subject to change without notice due to training requirements and weather. Also, cloud coverage can extend the range of sound further away from the Base.
So, next time you hear "booms", it may be "sounds of freedom," as some residents fondly call them.
JBMDL publishes its monthly noise calendars at the beginning of each month. Check back with TAPinto Bordentown at the start of each month to see what JBMDL has in store for us.
