HAMILTON, NJ -- What is normally one of the most anticipated events for Rutgers University students - Dance Marathon - has been paused because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. So, one of the most famous pizza restaurants in New Jersey - DeLorenzo's -- is stepping up to help raise money for the annual Embrace the Kids fundraiser.

On Saturday, January 9, skip cooking, go to the popular DeLorenzo's Pizza located at 147 Sloan Avenue in Hamilton, and enjoy one of their famous tomato pies for a good cause.  Whether it is eat-in or take-out, portions of every order will go directly to the Embrace the Kids charity. Patrons need to note that they are participating in the Rutgers fundraiser for Embrace the Kids Foundation when they are eating at or picking up their DeLorenzo's order.

Embrace Kids Foundation helps to lighten the burden, maintain normalcy and improve the quality of life for families in the New Jersey and New York City area whose children are facing cancer, sickle cell and other serious health challenges. Embrace the Kids addresses the spiritual, emotional and financial needs of patient families.

Skylar Guadagno, who is chairing the Dance Marathon for the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority at Rutgers, talked to TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville about the importance of keeping the charitable effort going. The junior at Rutgers has worked at DeLorenzo's for several years, and had the support of the owners who hosted a similar fundraiser last year to raise approximately $500. The Rutgers students are hoping to increase their contribution to Embrace the Kids charity this year.

"These families need us so much," said Guadagno. "The kids are fighting for their lives; they don't get to sit down, and take a break from their illness. Dance Marathon serves as a metaphor for what these families have been through."

Students who normally participate in the famed Rutgers Dance Marathon receive sponsors as they dance for a good cause without sitting for 12-hour shifts.  In each of the last two years, Rutgers students have collectively raised more than one million dollars for Embrace the Kids.

The Dance Marathon will go on this year on April 9 and 10 in a remote fashion to keep the student's charitable efforts going.
