HAMILTON, NJ -- Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Hamilton, 1 Hamilton Health Place, Hamilton, New Jersey, recently received re-accreditation by the Joint Commission (TJC) and earned re-certification in stroke, total hip and knee replacement and spine surgery.
The Joint Commission is an independent organization that assesses continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care in a variety of health care settings. For its reaccreditation, TJC evaluated RWJUH Hamilton against performance standards across several dimensions, including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management and rights and responsibilities of the individual.
These standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients, and are based on scientific evidence and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. During the survey review process, surveyors evaluate an organization against these standards and also conduct on-site observations and interviews of staff and patients.
RWJUH Hamilton’s Vice President, Quality and Safety, Joan Bercari, MSN, RN, says, “Being Joint Commission certified supports our hospital’s mission of excellence through quality and service. We continue our efforts to make changes that lead to better patient outcomes through the use of evidence-based tools and a robust performance improvement process.”
Joint Commission accreditation standards are woven into every day operations at RWJUH Hamilton. “In order to prepare for The Joint Commission survey, our team reviews performance standards, tracks data to demonstrate compliance, and communicates areas of opportunity throughout the organization. I am proud of our efforts and commitment to our patients and community” Bercari stated.
