HAMILTON, NJ --  Long-long Mercer County resident and active Hamiltonian, Thomas Giaguinto is set to celebrate his life well lived on his upcoming 75th birthday.

Born on August 2, 1945, Giaguinto followed in his family's footsteps by contributing to the community where he has lived and worked his entire life. His father was the chairman of the Chambersburg Feast of Lights and founder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade and Thomas, he recalled, was “with him at every step when (he) was a kid)."   He even recalls 1950s celebrity cowgirl personality Sally Starr visiting the family home before the Parade one year.

The younger Giaguinto was a boxer with the Trenton Police Athletic League and a Trenton fireman dating back to the 1960s.

He has been married to his wife of 44 years, Marie Helena, who worked as a Trenton teacher.

Through the years, they have enjoyed a good life and actively engaged in the community.  At times, the couple has battled health challenges, Tommy once even being given last rites, but together they have overcome them.

“I believe in Saint Jude, the patron saint of hopeless cases and in positivity. I will pray the rest of my life to Saint Jude,” says Giaquinto.

Throughout his professional career, he owned numerous properties and worked with local funeral homes for more than 40 years.

An avid story-teller, Tommy will regale listeners of stories about meeting Merv Griffith during a hospital stay in Philadelphia that came with an invitation and red-carpet treatment at a Las Vegas casino. He happily remembers meeting entertainers such as Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, and James Brown.

Giaquinto also has been active in local politics for most of his life now serving as a Mercer County Democratic Committeeman for several years. He’s proud to say he’s met three presidents – Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump (before he was in office).

The Giaquinto family lives in the Evergreens neighborhood of Hamilton and remain active in the community.
