JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, NJ-- If you live in the Robbinsville, Hamilton or surrounding area, you are probably used to noise coming from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL).
JBMDL has released its monthly "Noise Level Calendar" for January 2021 so that its neighbors know what to expect when it comes to sounds coming from the Base.
The calendar is broken down into three categories: slight noise, moderate noise and abundant noise. January is turning out to be a quiet month, with only one day of "abundant noise" planned for Wednesday, January 20.
Although JBMDL does not publicize the specific training that is taking place day-to-day, exercises can range from artillery training to explosive disposal training to mortar training-- which typically leads to the loudest noise levels.
JBMDL notes that noise levels are subject to change without notice due to training requirements and weather. Also, cloud coverage can extend the range of sound further away from the Base.
So, next time you hear "booms", it may be "sounds of freedom," as some residents fondly call them.
JBMDL publishes its monthly noise calendars at the beginning of each month. Check back with TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville at the start of each month to see what JBMDL has in store for us.
