HAMILTON, NJ -- Hamilton Township School District (HTSD) is getting ready to commemorate the Class of 2020 with not one, but two celebrations. Plus, two weeks of celebrations will be held online and around the town.
In a letter to the Hamilton Township school community, Superintendent Dr. Scott Rocco announced that there will be virtual graduation ceremonies held for each high school -- Steinert High School, Hamilton High School West and Nottingham High School -- as well as in-person graduations for each of the three graduating classes.
The "Virtual Graduation" will be "closely based on each individual school's traditional graduation ceremony." It will be produced and posted on social media and the District’s TV station (HTV) on June 17 to mark the official day of high school graduation.
Following Governor Phil Murphy's announcement on Tuesday allowing in-person graduations, the School District is now planning a "Live Graduation." According to Rocco's message, plans are under formation to hold a "graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 on each high school football field on July 30th with a rain date of July 31st, that adheres to all social distancing guidelines at that time."
Rocco said the District is considering big, outside venues in Mercer County that may be used to help meet social distancing guidelines. With further guidance on ceremonies are expected from the state Department of Education, Rocco is hopeful it "provides more flexibility for an in-person graduation."
If a July "Live Graduation" cannot handle on either date, graduates will be invited back to each respective school's Homecoming Football Game to be honored then.
In additional, the School District is encouraging families and friends to celebrate the High School Seniors in the Class of 2020. Senior Week -- June 8-12 -- that will include the June 8 the Senior Awards Presentation that will be streamed on each school website and HTV.
