WEST WINDSOR, NJ– In keeping with state and nationwide social distancing recommendations, Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Camp College and Kelsey Theatre’s Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops have announced plans for an extensive slate of virtual summer camps designed to educate, engage, and entertain in a remote environment.

“Just as schools have been challenged to change the way they deliver experiential learning for our children due to the pandemic, so has Camp College,” said Rose Fiorello, MCCC Director of Youth and Special Programs.

This summer, Camp College will offer programs in an array of fields and subjects, including the sciences, arts and technology. These aren’t virtual babysitting options, Fiorello said – campers will walk away from the summer with concrete skills they can take back to school in the fall.

Fiorello said that Camp College kept busy summer schedules in mind when planning the offerings. For example, the summer Super Science Virtual Camp, which will teach campers about atoms, bonding, and the periodic table, is centered around lessons campers and their parents can schedule at times that suit them best.

Other camps, like Drone Legends, will see campers learning to code and pilot drones through a live, password-protected Zoom session.

Many of the camps will also feature graduation ceremonies, after which students will receive framed certificates acknowledging what they learned over the summer.

“We have developed an engaging, innovative lineup of programs sure to please any virtual camper,” Fiorello said. “And, rest assured that as soon as we are permitted, we will add additional on-site programs.”
