ROBBINSVILLE, NJ -- The talented students of the Robbinville Robotics teams have competed in multiple world championships and won. Now, the teams are turning their attention to pushing for more state funding to create similar robotics teams throughout New Jersey High Schools.  

Members of the Robotics Team 2590 Nemesis, which was established in 2007, and the Technology Challenge Team 14020 Nemesis Prime, which was established ten years laterrecently made their case for increased state funding before the Robbinsville Township Council. Team mentors and members believe that the State of New Jersey should explore avenues for funding and consider experimenting with local pilot programs to provide grants to help start new robotics programs in local school districts.

The internationally recognized FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization has dedicated itself for the past thirty years to the improvement of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) communities. It is through these competitions that many students involved in robotics teams compete on a state, national and global stage o explore an involvement in STEM,

A local resolution, which was passed unanimously by the Robbinsville Council, noted that the State of Michigan appropriates $3,000,000 to fund FIRST and VEX Robotics teams across the state, resulting in 57% of Michigan high schools having a FIRST Robotics team. In New Jersey, however, only 19% of the high schools in the State of New Jersey have a FIRST Robotics team.   

"The Township Council offers its support to the FIRST Robotics Team 2590 Nemesis and their mission to expand the positive impact of youth robotics programs across the State of New Jersey," the approved resolution that will now be sent to Governor Phil Murphy and the State Legislature for consideration said.  

FIRST Technology Challenge Team 14020 Nemesis Prime has been creating a foundation to become a representative of the FIRST mission and competed in five FIRST Qualifiers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has been in the top teams. Meanwhile, FIRST Robotics Team 2590 Nemesis has competed in 10 FIRST World Championships and won 17 events including 4 Mid-Atlantic Regional championships and a FIRST World Championship Division win. In addition, FIRST Robotics Team 2590 Nemesis has won 13 entrepreneurship and 13 engineering awards,
