To the Editor:

The League of Women Voters was NOT bullied by Hamilton residents.  Discussions of the forum with Mayor Yaede had stalled.  We set a deadline for her to give us a firm agreement that she would participate and that would allow us to move ahead with our preparations, but this yielded nothing in the nature of an agreement, nor even further discussions, neither of bullies nor anything else.   We only organize forums when competing candidates participate, so we canceled arrangements that we had already made, and we canceled the forum.  We deeply regret that we were unable to provide this service to Hamilton voters.

The League does  offer an online voters guide, however,  and we  urge voters to go to closer to the November 5 election.  This online voters guide is not the same as a forum as voters cannot participate directly.  Nonetheless, responses from all candidates who choose to answer League questions are included.  Candidates who have not participated are included, but only by name.  Council President Martin and many of the candidates for other offices have already participated.  Mayor Yaede has not, but unlike with the forum, she still has the chance to do so.
