ROBBINSVILLE, NJ --  When more than a year passed after participating in a photo shoot, Robbinsville resident Samantha DiMartino assumed nothing would come from it. Any disappointment about that quickly faded when she and her family were invited to New Brunswick to attend the unveiling of the newly designed Girl Scout cookie boxes for this selling season, and there was her smiling face.

DiMartino, speaking to the Robbinsville Township Council on Thursday, explained that each box features local scouts on the front. But, all boxes nationally use the same photo with her in it.

"This is the biggest thing that has happened to me in Girl Scouts,"said DeMartino, who then quickly remembered she met then-First Lady Michelle Obama, then-Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, the Queen of Jordan, and musician Sara Bareilles at the United Nations General Assembly.  That meeting a few years ago was part of the Girls Scouts Generation program to encourage girls in the STEM field and Obama's Let Girls Learn initiative.

Samantha is a "Juliette" Girl Scout who works with her mother, Joanne, as her Troop Leader to continue her projects and experiences on an independent basis. She is set to present her Gold Award project in May for creating a Pet Rescue Club.

Outside of scouting, DiMartino also is the Drum Line Captain of the Robbinsville High School Marching Band; President of National Honor Society; Stage Manager for the Spring Musical; and active in the Drama and Thespian clubs.

She is eagerly awaiting the results of her college applications and is considering majoring in biology.   Samantha said she's already sold 25 cases of cookies but the excitement of the box photo has been a good distraction while she waits for those college acceptance letters!
