ROBBINSVILLE, NJ --  In most homes the question as to what can, or can not, go into the recycling bin comes up nearly every day.

At a recent meeting of the Robbinsville Township Council members of the Orion Robotics Team presented their artificial intelligence driven solution that uses Voice Interface platforms such as "Alexa" and Google Home" to raise awareness of the proper way to recycle, and possible eliminating this question from daily conversation. The group also took on the challenge of educating residents in Robbinsville and Mercer County about recycling problems.

According to Kislay Kaushik, parent of one of the team members, the "kids have researched and discovered a very critical issue about recycling in Mercer County area. Their study has shown that the majority of residents are very confused or unaware of the recycling norms in the county. This team recently conducted a survey and found some alarming statistics."

Kaushik added that the Robbinsville Public Works Department helped guide the students on relevant information to help residents become more disciplined and informed about the impact of recycling particularly "in terms of how much confusion exist around recycling as well as the down stream impact."
