TRENTON, NJ — Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes has announced a partnership with AARP and the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide residents with free income tax preparation assistance to prepare and file their 2019 taxes.
The deadline for filing 2019 tax returns for both state and federal taxes is Wednesday, April 15. The free tax services will be offered beginning on February 1 and run through mid-April and community locations throughout Mercer County, including at several sites in Hamilton and Robbinsville.
AARP Tax-Aide program provides Tax-Aides to assist people with low to moderate incomes with 2019 tax preparation at Mercer County Connection, libraries and other sites. The AARP services will be offered locally at:
- Hamilton Senior Center at 409 Cypress Lane in Hamilton on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Appointments need to be made by calling (609) 890-3686;
- Mercer County Connection at 957 Route 33 (Acme shopping center) in Hamilton on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Appointment necessary by calling (609) 890-9800. (Mercer County residents only)
- Robbinsville Branch, Mercer County Library System at 42 Robbinsville Allentown Road in Robbinsville on Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Appointment necessary; call (609) 259-2150.
- RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center at 3100 Quakerbridge Road in Mercerville on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointment necessary; call (609) 584-5900.
The VITA Program offers free tax help to people who make $56,000 or less, people with disabilities, and limited-English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. The VITA program services will be available locally at the Hamilton Township Free Public Library at 1 Justice Samuel A. Alito Way in Hamilton on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Walk-ins are welcome; but participants need to call (609) 581-4060 for required paperwork. In addition, the program will be offered at the Mercer County Community College: Room SC104 at 1200 Old Trenton Road in West Windsor.on Wednesdays, 2 to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.
